About Information, Advice and Guidance
We provide information advice and guidance to help young people make more informed choices, about learning, raise their aspirations and equip them to make safe and sensible decisions about sexual health and substance misuse.
(Careers) Guidance aims to support young people to better understand themselves and their needs; to confront barriers to understanding, learning and progression; to resolve issues and conflicts and to support them to develop new perspectives and solutions to problems and be able to better manage their lives and achieve their potential.
This often takes the form of helping individuals review/confirm goals and update plans. Checking that preferred options match individuals needs, abilities and aspirations, make sense and from coherent package. Challenging decisions based on inappropriately low aspirations, erroneous ideas and/or stereotyped and traditional thinking.
Guidance is delivered in a number of settings including One Stop Shop, Schools, Colleges, Training Providers , Youth Centres and in some cases at home.
