Centre for Independent Living ready for launch!

Hartlepool Borough Council staff are busy preparing Hartlepool's new Centre for Independent Living for its opening tonight (30 March).

A consultation carried out on behalf of Hartlepool Borough Council named the Havelock Day Centre building on Burbank Street - which first opened its doors almost 40 years ago in 1972 - as the most suitable location for the new centre.

The former day centre for people with physical disabilities and sensory impairments has undergone a £500,000 makeover to become Hartlepool's new Centre for Independent Living, or CIL.

The CIL is home to voluntary and community sector organisations offering advice, information, advocacy and practical help for those living with a disability.

A brand-new independent living suite gives visitors the opportunity to try out a range of daily living equipment - such as bathlifts and hoists - with a trusted Occupational Therapy assessor on-hand to offer help and advice.

A newly refurbished training room and events hall are available to hire, and a bistro serving hot and cold snacks and refreshments will be opening soon.

Opening tonight

The CIL will be opening its doors to the public from 5pm until 7pm this evening, and everyone is welcome to come along.

The Centre for Independent Living is the building formerly known as the Havelock Day Centre.  It is on the corner of Burbank Street and Mainsforth Terrace.  There is a large car park and parking is free of charge.
