Story: Trades service proving popular
Story first published 15 November 2010.
A service which aims to put homeowners in touch with reliable local tradespeople is proving popular with Hartlepool residents.
Set up in partnership with Hartlepool Borough Council, the Hartlepool Trades Service list is being administered by Anchor Staying Put and is available to all homeowners in the town.
The service offers peace of mind to customers in search of a plumber, joiner, gas fitter, decorator, gardener or handyperson to carry out all manner of jobs around the home - anything from fixing a dripping tap or wobbly shelf to fitting a new bathroom suite or building a two-storey extension.
Extra checks and project management
Contractors applying to be on the Hartlepool Trades Service list must adhere to a code of conduct and undergo several checks, including a Criminal Records Bureau disclosure.
Customers access tradespeople on the service list through Anchor, who will act as project manager on behalf of the customer by arranging for quotes, agreeing start dates, and being on-hand to help with any problems on-site. The customer is charged a fee for this service only if they decide to go ahead with the work.
Satisfied customers
As part of the service, Anchor contact customers to make sure they are satisfied with the work that has been done. Below is some of the feedback collected from Trades Service customers.
- Mrs F had all her sanitary fittings and tiling replaced in her downstairs cloakroom. In her letter she expressed her thanks. She said that she was very pleased with the work done and the pleasant and courteous way it was completed. She has decided to use the same contractor for a re-fit of her main an en-suite bathrooms as she was very happy with his work and the prices he quoted.
- Mrs B used a contractor from the Trades Service to fit new skirting boards and box-in some exposed pipes. She found it an excellent service and found the contractor to be very helpful. She was especially pleased at how the contractor tidied up after himself, leaving her with nothing to do once the work was finished. She stated she will definitely use the service again and would highly recommend it.
- Mr and Mrs T had their porch, kitchen and bathroom decorated by a contractor from the Trades Service. They were very happy with the work, which they felt was carried out to a satisfactory standard at a reasonable price. They would happily use the service again and would recommend to their friends and neighbours.
