Have your say on Hartlepool's tree strategy
Hartlepool Borough Council is asking people for their views on a new tree strategy for the town.
The strategy sets out the council's guiding principles on tree-related issues and aims to enhance the role and status of trees in Hartlepool for the benefit of everyone who lives in, works in or visits the borough.
Tony Dixon, of Hartlepool Borough Council's Landscape Planning and Conservation team, said: "We hope that this new tree strategy will help to develop the positive contribution which trees make to the town's environment by promoting the many benefits of trees and setting out the council's principles on tree-related matters.
"Before we finalise it, we would like as many local people as possible to have a look at it and give us their views.
"For example, do people agree that the council should retain and protect Hartlepool's existing trees? Also, do they agree that we should increase the number of trees by planting more?"
The council has also prepared a document showing the potential social, environmental and economic impacts of the strategy and it would welcome people's views on that as well.
The consultation will run from Wednesday 8 September to Monday 8 November 2010.
You can view the draft strategy and the appraisal online on the Hartlepool Borough Council website.
Alternatively, you can view the documents at Bryan Hanson House, off Lynn Street, during normal office hours.
