The expanded service was given the go-ahead by Councillor Peter Jackson, Hartlepool Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Transport and Neighbourhoods.

He said: "One of the points raised in a recent study of the transport links between the two hospitals was the limited route of the H1.

"This is an extremely useful service and increasing the number of stops will make it easier for a lot more people to use it.

"In some cases it will also have the added benefit of reducing the need for people to make an extra journey by public transport to connect with the service."
